The average skydiving cost ranges from $175 for tandem jumps to upwards of $2500 to become a certified jumper with an A License. This is great news because I know you’re excited to get yourself off the ground and into the air. Now you know that the cost to skydive varies, and you can start saving!
“You can’t get this type of adventure anywhere else. Skydiving is unique!” –Augusto Bartelle
I understand your desire, your passion for the thrill. No adventure quite compares to the adrenaline rush of jumping out of an airplane and freefalling towards the ground at +120mph.
Why should I go skydiving?
Skydiving is a fast sport–from the time you step on the plane, legs shaking in anticipation, to the time you find those shaky legs touching the ground, your whole experience will seem like a dream. You will quickly realize that your skydiving experience was well worth the price and that you might want to jump again.
If you are an adrenaline seeker, skydiving is one of those sports you will quickly become addicted to. Even if you’ve just always wanted to fly or are a fan of some spectacular views, you should try skydiving. When you do, you’ll promptly conquer your fears and be able to experience a part of nature most people never will.
On the other hand, for those who are afraid or who think this is an extreme experience and would like to try something else first, there is another excellent option. The wind tunnel or indoor skydiving is a perfect way to start to fly, and because of its safety regulations, people from age 3 to 103 can try. To further understand what this is, read my article about the reasons you should try indoor skydiving to help make your decision.
What to expect
With Skydiving Perris, Dubai or, Hawaii, it’s likely that the skydiving cost is at the forefront of your mind, but what you really want to know is what to expect when you sign up for skydiving.
There are two different paths to take here, a tandem skydive jump or the AFF Skydiving Course for solo skydiving.
With tandem skydiving, you will get to the drop zone in the time you scheduled for, you will sign all the terms, agreements, contracts. Then, you will weigh yourself and watch a video. After that, all the processes will be explained by a tandem instructor or by someone highly experienced. This person will teach you the basics about skydiving, will tell you about Myths in Skydiving, security procedures and anything that you should know about the experience. If you have any questions, this is a great opportunity to ask them.
Time to go skydiving
When the instructor calls your name, you will put on Drop Zone clothes (if you wish), and the tandem student equipment. At this point, the tandem instructor who will jump with you will talk to you and help make you feel comfortable. If you have any other questions, that is a good time to ask.
An exceptionally good drop zone will make you feel safe and comfortable, compared to a regular drop zone where you watch a quick video, put on the gear, and head out.
For those who want a more involved experience, in the skydiving AFF course, the student starts on the ground, where an AFF instructor teaches you everything you need to know to have a safe, fun and successful first skydiving jump.
What that means is that your certified instructors will explain the whole process to you from start to finish, and you’ll watch a few worthwhile videos along the way. after that, a good drop zone will make sure you are thoroughly prepared for your jump, and the skydiving center will provide some excellent equipment and clothes for your jump.
How much does tandem skydiving cost?
So, when you first asked me how much does skydiving cost, you were probably wondering about the price of a tandem jump. While most tandem jumps run between $175 to $299, for a few extra dollars, you can add a video to your package, which I recommend all first-time skydivers purchase. The price is going to be fairly standard whether you’re looking at the price to skydive in Utah or the skydive NYC price.
Aside from the price of a tandem skydive, the location you will jump in is a critical decision. I suggest you find a USPA Drop Zone in the USA and if you are somewhere else, try to post on Facebook and ask your friends or look on Instagram for a skydiver who can help you out with finding the right place. If you want a head-start, there is also an article I wrote some time ago, giving tips on how to find a good Drop Zone near you.
What’s included in a tandem jump?
You can find the right package for what you are looking for. Typically, a tandem jump package provides everything that you would need. The instructor wears the parachute, and the company will provide you with a jumpsuit, goggles, altimeter and the necessary instruction. All you have to do is show up, sign the papers and pay.
Do you want video and/or photos to remember your jump? You should consider it, even though it will probably cost you extra since you are only paying for the jump. However, most jump schools have packages that will include video and pictures. Well worth the price.
Most of the USA skydiving centers are affiliated with the United States Parachute Association (USPA). The basic requirement for those drop zones is that the skydiver has at least 18 years old on the day of the jump. There is no upper age limit if the skydiver is healthy.
A tandem skydive jump will not require much of you. However, some drop zones suggest that the skydiver should weigh less than 230lbs. There are skydiving centers that take heavier people in tandem for an extra price.
Both students and certified skydivers are required to wear heavy gear. They should also have good body shape to support and opening shakes or shocks. Last, but not least, they should have full movement of arms to control the parachute from opening to landing.
Skydiving is actually relatively safe, all things considered. Your instructor has gone through some difficult requirements to become certified, so listen to what they have to say. In a tandem jump, it’s in both of your best interests to have a safe and fun jump.
A tandem jump instructor takes care of equipment safety checks, guides the freefall, and steers the parachute for a safe ride and landing. All in all, skydiving is much safer than driving, a risk most people take day-in and day-out.
If you’re wondering what Tandem Instructor requirements are, it ultimately takes time and many jumps. Here are the basic requirements:
- 500 Jumps
- At least 3 years in the sport
- D level certification (the highest) from the US Parachute Association
- FAA class 3 medical certificate
