Spain is priceless. The country has so much to offer, and that’s why more than 80 million enter in Spain every year. If you can add all the amazing things you can see in Spain and skydiving, you found paradise. Skydive Empuriabrava is my leading destination when I think about skydiving in Europe. I check on some old friends and meet lots of new ones since Skydive Empuriabrava is one of the skydiving hubs in Europe.
Barcelona is only 45 min away from Empuriabrava by train and 1 hour and a half by car. Easy to move from one to another what gives skydivers many options. In Barcelona, I went to the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, La Rambla, and walked all over Passeig de Grácia.
Playing tourist in Barcelona? There is lots of things you must see.
The city
Empuriabrava it’s known as Venice from Spain because of the massive amount of canals along with the city (more than 25 miles of canals). Nature is an enormous plus in the city. All visitors can take some time for hiking and visit cities nearby. The views from the sky and from the top of the mountains that are around the region are spectacular.
There are lots of things to do in Empuriabrava besides skydiving. Honestly, I didn’t check it. However, my girlfriend came along with me, and she does not skydive. So, she spent some time looking around and selecting the best things to do in Empuriabrava if you are not a skydiver.
The drop zone
The view from the airplane is impressive. It’s fantastic how easy it can be to jump from an aircraft when the landscape gives you so much peace of mind. Also, the canals around the city set this place apart from the others. It’s so beautiful that it is hard to describe. Lucky us, we have a video to show all that adventure.
Everyone in the community is super helpful and kind. When I say everyone, I mean it. From the people that work at the DZ, passing by the person who makes pizza 2 miles away and the guy selling roses at the city restaurants. Everyone is open to talk and help you if you need anything. I think being so social is something cultural over here.
The last point is that Skydive Empuriabrava is the house of many great skydivers. We frequently can find iconic skydivers in Empuriabrava. Besides the opportunity to skydive with great flyers, we can learn a lot about the skydiving story and what is going on in the industry nowadays.
As a result, Empuriabrava is one of the places that I like the most for skydiving and chilling. I can affirm that it’s tough to go back home.
The good stuff
To start with the positive points, Skydive Empuriabrava has 3 planes, an Otter, a Beech 99 and a Pilatus (and amazing pilots that take you up to 14.500 feet). It is open everyday (unless there is a global epidemic) and the staff is very friendly and helpful. At the drop zone we have a great place to eat and drink. People stay there after jumping hours to socialize and know each other better. The Windoor is right at the corner. The most famous wind tunnel in Catalunya stays right at the drop zone.
I consider Skydive Empuriabrava a great place to do a tandem or the AFF course. I know most of the instructors and I feel safe to recommend it to everyone.
During the summer the skydiving center offer free load organizer. Nowadays David Nimmo from Fly Warriors and Stephan Fardel from Babylon share the LO spot at Skydive Empuriabrava. I’m not sure but I think if we add their jumps together, the sum would be more than 50.000 jumps.
Around Skydiving Empuriabrava we have a great town. There are many hotels and places to eat and drink. There are a few night clubs and great parties for the skydiver that want to rage.
